10 Simple Weight-Loss Tips You Shouldn’t Overlook

10 Simple Weight-Loss Tips You Shouldn’t Overlook
10个你不能忽视的减肥妙招
Losing weight does not have to be difficult. By incorporating a few simple lifestyle changes you can start to see changes in not only your weight, but your overall health.
减肥并不困难。采用几个简单地方法不仅可以帮你帮你减肥,还能帮你改善整体的健康状态。
1.Drink water before a meal.
饭前喝水
Drinking water before your meals prevents the surging of your insulin levels. Insulin levels are important to weight loss, because when there are high levels of insulin in the blood stream, chances of storing fat in the body are higher.
饭前喝水能阻止胰岛素水平的上升。胰岛素对于降低体重起着至关重要的作用,因为血液中胰岛素水平的增加,身体里面储存脂肪的可能性就更大。
2.Eat from smaller plates.
用小盘子吃饭
Try eating from salad-sized plates so that you consume smaller portions. The ideal size of the plate should be 9 inches, as this is a normal portion to feel full.
试着用和装沙拉差不多大的盘子吃饭这样你吃的分量就少,最好是用9英寸的盘子,因为这样大小的盘子就够饱的分量。
3.Take your time eating a meal.
花时间吃饭
Take at least 15 minutes to eat a meal. This is the time needed to trick your stomach into thinking it is full.
每餐饭至少吃15分钟,需要这段时间来让你的胃感觉吃饱。
4.Avoid cravings.
抵制住想吃东西的欲望
Now, this might seem like a difficult task, but the next time you have a craving, try waiting 20 minutes before giving in. Chances are it will go away.
现在,这看起来是个比较困难的事情,但是下次你有想吃东西的欲望的时候,在放弃之前在等20分钟。这种想吃东西的欲望会渐渐消退。
5.Take the stairs whenever possible.
尽可能的走楼梯
Just 2 minutes of climbing stairs a day can keep off the pesky 2 lbs ; it also burns an average of 10 calories a minute.
每天只爬2分钟的楼梯也能减掉2磅,平均每分钟燃烧10卡路里的热量。
6.Identify your emotional triggers.
弄清你的情绪
Identify when you are feeling bored, depressed, or stressed out; watch out for what you are eating, and why you are eating it. Instead of reaching for junk food, take the time go for a walk, call a friend, or take a bath.
当你感觉无聊,压抑或是压力大的时候,注意你在吃的是什么,为什么要吃。与其在那里吃垃圾食物还不如出去走走,联系联系朋友或者洗个澡。
7.Get at least 7 hours of sleep.
至少睡够7个小时
Being tired makes for skipped workouts and extra snacking.
疲倦会让你更不想锻炼,吃更多零食。
8.Wear fitted clothes.
穿合身的衣服
Wearing baggy clothes hides your body. When you wear fitted clothes, you will notice when you gain a pound, and can work on getting rid of it.
穿宽松的衣服能遮住你的肉肉。当你穿比较合身的衣服的时候,要是长了几磅你肯定能注意到,你会想着要减掉那几磅。
9.When finished eating, put food away.
吃完之后,就把食物拿开
After eating a meal, put food away immediately to avoid munching. Another trick is to cover up food up with napkin so that it is not tempting you.
吃完饭之后,为了不让自己再吃就马上把食物拿开。还有一个方法就是用餐巾纸把食物盖起来,这样它就没办法在诱惑你了。
10.Exercise while watching television.
看电视的时候做锻炼
Exercise does not have to be a burden. Incorporate exercise in the daily tasks you are performing already. Do it while watching your favorite shows or use a treadmill or do squats during commercials. All you need is 20 minutes.
锻炼不会成为你的负担。可以把锻炼安排在你平常的各种工作中。再看你喜欢的节目的时候做锻炼或者在广告的时候在跑步机上跑步。只需20分钟。

Pop Chinese,Learning a language – 10 things you need to know

学习语言你必须知道的十件事
Learning a language – 10 things you need to know

1. Make realistic, specific goals
1.制定现实而具体的目标

You have decided to learn another language. Now what? On our recent live chat our panellists first piece of advice was to ask yourself: what do you want to achieve and by when? Donavan Whyte, vice president of enterprise and education at Rosetta Stone, says: “Language learning is best when broken down into manageable goals that are achievable over a few months. This is far more motivating and realistic.”

2. Remind yourself why you are learning
2.提醒自己学习的目的

It might sound obvious, but recognising exactly why you want to learn a language is really important. Alex Rawlings, a language teacher now learning his 13th language, says: “Motivation is usually the first thing to go, especially among students who are teaching themselves.” To keep the momentum going he suggests writing down 10 reasons you are learning a language and sticking it to the front of the file you are using: “I turn to these in times of self-doubt.”
这问题的答案看起来似乎很明显,但能够准确地认识到自己学习一门语言的目的是很重要的。语言学教师艾利克斯·罗林斯(Alex Rawlings),目前正在学习他的第十三种语言,他说:“确定学习动机是首先要做的事情,尤其对那些自学外语的学生而言。” 他建议学习者写下十个学习这门语言的理由,并把它贴在学习文件夹的首页,以此保持学习的动力:“当我开始怀疑自己的时候,我就看看这些当初学习的理由。”

3. Focus on exactly what you want to learn
3.集中精力学习那些你想要学习的东西

Often the discussion around how to learn a language slides into a debate about so-called traditional v tech approaches. For Aaron Ralby, director of Linguisticator, this debate misses the point: “The question is not so much about online v offline or app v book. Rather it should be how can we assemble the necessary elements of language for a particular objective, present them in a user-friendly way, and provide a means for students to understand those elements.”

4. Read for pleasure
4.快乐阅读

For many of our panellists, reading was not only great for making progress, but one of the most rewarding aspects of the learning experience. Alex Rawlings explains that reading for pleasure “exposes you to all sorts of vocabulary that you won’t find in day-to-day life, and normalises otherwise baffling and complicated grammatical structures. The first book you ever finish in a foreign languages is a monumental achievement that you’ll remember for a long time.”
对于我们当中众多的小组成员来说,阅读不仅对学习进步大有裨益,而且是这次学习的经历中对我们最有益的方面之一。艾利克斯·罗林斯解释说快乐阅读能“将你沉浸在众多日常不会使用到的词汇之中,并且将那些令人疑惑和复杂的语法结构常态化。你完整阅读的第一本外语书籍是个值得纪念的成就,这会是一个很难忘的经历。”

5. Learn vocabulary in context
5. 在语境中学习词汇

Memorising lists of vocabulary can be challenging, not to mention potentially dull. Ed Cooke, co-founder and chief executive of Memrise, believes that association is key to retaining new words: “A great way to build vocabulary is to make sure the lists you’re learning come from situations or texts that you have experienced yourself, so that the content is always relevant and connects to background experience.”
记住一大堆单词是很困难的,更不要说这可能是一个相当无聊的过程。Memrise 公司的联合创始人兼首席执行官艾德·库克(Ed Cooke)认为联想是记忆单词很重要的方法:“建立词汇库的一个重要方法是确保你现在学习的那些单词都是来自亲身经历的场景或阅读的文本,这样的话记忆的内容就会与经验背景联系起来。”

6. Ignore the myths: age is just a number
6. 无视那些迷思:年龄只是数字

If you’re still not convinced of your chances, Ralby suggests drawing inspiration from early philologists and founders of linguistics who “learned dozens of languages to encyclopaedic levels as adults”.

7. Do some revision of your native language
7. 要多复习自己的母语

Speaking your first language may be second nature, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you understand it well. Kerstin Hammes, editor of the Fluent Language Blog, believes you can’t make good progress in a second language until you understand your own. “I think understanding your native language and just generally how language works is so essential before you launch yourself at a bunch of foreign phrases.”
说自己的母语可能是人的第二天性,但这并不意味着你很好地理解这门语言。流利语言博客的编辑克里斯汀·哈梅斯(Kerstin Hammes)认为除非你很好地理解了自己的母语,否则无法在第二语言的学习上得到进步。“我认为理解自己的母语以及理解语言如何运作,这一点在你学习一堆外国语词汇之前是很重要的。”

8. Don’t underestimate the importance of translation
8. 别低估了翻译的重要性

Different approaches may be necessary at different stages of the learning process. Once you have reached a certain level of proficiency and can say quite a bit, fairly accurately, Rebecca Braun, senior lecturer in German studies at Lancaster University, says it is typical to feel a slowing down in progress. “Translation,” she says, “is such an important exercise for helping you get over a certain plateau that you will reach as a language learner … Translation exercises don’t allow you to paraphrase and force the learner on to the next level.”.
在学习语言的不同过程中,我们可能需要使用不同的学习方法。一旦你达到了一定的学习水平,口语不错,准确度也还行的时候,兰卡斯特大学德语研究高级讲师丽贝卡·布劳恩(Rebecca Braun)说到了这个阶段,翻译练习在帮助作为语言学习者的你跨越一个难以进步的稳定时期是非常重要的……翻译练习不允许你进行阐释,这会迫使学习者进入到更高一级的水平。

9. Beware of fluency
9. 当心流畅性

Many of the panellists were cautious of the F-word. Hammes argues not only is it difficult to define what fluency is, but “as a goal it is so much bigger than it deserves to be. Language learning never stops because it’s culture learning, personal growth and endless improvement. I believe that this is where learners go wrong”.
很多嘉宾对于“流畅”这个词都持谨慎态度。哈梅斯认为这不仅仅是因为很难定义这个词,还因为作为学习目标,这不应该要把它置于如此高的地位。学习语言的过程从未终止,这是因为语言学习的过程也是文化学习的过程,也是个人的成长,它会一直不断的提升。我认为这就是英语学习者弄错的地方。

10. Go to where the language is spoken
10. 去到说目标语言的地方

It may not be an option for everyone but Braun reminds us that “if you are serious about learning the language and getting direct pleasure from what you have learned, you need to go to where that language is spoken”.
不是所有人都能做到这样,但布劳恩提醒我们说,“若你认真对待你所学的这门语言,同时能够在学习它的过程中得到快乐,那么你应该到说这语言的地方去。” 旅行和住在外国能够有效地对课堂学习进行补充:“在家手看书本和词汇表可能是让你置身于目标语言环境的最简单的方式,但是该语言环境中的人和文化都在书本之外,除非你到说这种语言的国家去。”

Pop Chinese, 任何事都不要指望别人。

HSChinese pushes online-teaching to a new level

Photo: Courtesy of hellohsk.com

"I hope there will be a good online HSK (Chinese proficiency) training platform, so that students can pass HSK exams with ease." said Tang Xi, CEO of HSChinese.
His concept of building an online Chinese learning website is that there are many people who are paying great attention to Chinese learning and the language itself has become extremely popular all over the world.
The numbers of Chinese learners in France were less than 5,000 about ten years ago. In 2009, that number had escalated to 44,000. The number firmed Tang's concept. His team worked day and night and developed the Hello HSK website within a month.
"The website is a structure," said Tang, "Content developed by our professional Chinese teachers is the soul". Indeed, upon first glance of the Hello HSK website, you will see a wide-array of Chinese learning resources in systematic order. Listening, reading and writing, HSK model tests, past exam papers as well as a large database of exercises, all for free. In addition, there are HSK live classes during which students and teachers can interact.
While HSChinese is growing at a fast rate, Tang noticed their mobile users are outgrowing website users. This time Tang and his team built 12 mobile apps for Hello HSK, which constantly rank top positions both on Google Play and Apple's App Store with positive feedback. It's definitely a smart move.
Although users were content with the Chinese learning resources on this website, Tang strived to improve it. He added paid services, such as "Essay Correcting" and "One on One Tutoring." Now, users can submit their compositions to HSChinese teachers for proofreading.
At first, Tang and his team worried that users would be reluctant to use paid service. However, just two hours after its release, a student from Vietnam made a reservation for a one-week HSK Sprint Tutorial, paid using Hansheng Coin, the virtual currency on Hello HSK platform.
Hello HSK registered user database has increased substantially, which proves HSChinese online-teaching is advancing to a new level.
Though HSChinese has made great achievements, there are more to come, such as oral classes. There is also room for the company to add Spoken Chinese on their website or apps in the future.
